Tadpoles (Tiny Tots)

If you are 3‑ to 5 years old, and have little or no swimming experience, this course will get you started in the water. You'll learn how to keep afloat and how to control your breathing. Learn the basic water skills that will help you guard against accidents as you gain confidence in the water.  Main objective is to make sure to get you comfortable around the water.

Day One:  

Safety Topic :   Be Cool, Follow the Rules.  

  • Tour the facility and swimming area.  
  • Why is it important to have rules for swimming?  
  • What are some rules at this pool?

New Skills:  

  • Enter and exit the water safely.  
  • Submerge mouth, nose and eyes.  
  • Blow bubbles.  
  • Front float with support:
    Show comfort; Recover.  
  • Back float with support:
    Show comfort; Recover.  

Game:  

  • Cork Game Race

Day Two:

Safety Topic:   Swim with a Buddy in a Supervised Area.

  • Why should you not swim alone?
  • Who should supervise you when you are swimming?

Review Skills:

  • New Skills Day 1

New Skills:

  • Open eyes underwater.
  • Pick up a submerged object.
  • Swim on front with support.

  • Swim on back with support.

Game:

Tommy Over the Water

Day Three

Safety Topic:   Look Before You Leap

  • What makes a place safe for swimming?
  • What type of safety equipment should be at the swimming site?

Review Skills:

  • New Skills Days 1 & 2

New Skills:

  • Swim on front with support.

              Simultaneous arms

              Simultaneous legs

  • Swim on back with support.

              Simultaneous arms

              Simultaneous legs

  • Change direction of travel while paddling.
