Hollister Police Explorer Program

Police Explorer Patch

The Hollister Police Explorer program is designed for career oriented young adults who are interested in becoming a police officer or working in the field of law enforcement.  By attending monthly meetings and participating in special activities, Supervised by full-time Hollister police officers, the Explorers gain first-hand knowledge of the police officer's job. The program also promotes personal growth and development while providing a positive service to the community. The Explorer program is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, who provide insurance and other support functions.

Applicants for the Explorer program must meet the following requirements:

  • Maintain a minimum "C" average with good attendance in the school they are attending
  • Be between the ages of 14 and 21
  • Have no serious criminal convictions, or be on probation

The Hollister Police Explorers attend meetings on the first and third Monday of each month at the Police Department.  Activities include law enforcement related classroom training, practical field exercises, firearms orientation and safety, and participation in special events. Among these events are the San Benito County Fair, parades, golf tournaments, and other community activities where the Explorers perform traffic and crowd control, communications and other related duties.

Explorers have the opportunity to participate in the ride-along program. During a ride-along, Explorers assist officers in everyday duties such as paperwork, traffic control at accidents, and assisting with calls for service.

If you are interested in becoming a Hollister Police Explorer you may download an application form at the bottom of this page, or you may stop by the police station and ask for an explorer application. Upon completion of the application and a successful background check, the Explorer candidate may be invited to join the program.

If you would like additional information about the Explorer Program, or have any questions, please contact Hollister Police Department at (831) 636-4330 or Explorer Sergeant Patrick Kennedy at (831) 638-4154.
