US
The
City of Hollister Animal Shelter was established
in 1982 and serves as a safe haven for thousands
of domestic animals who are lost, abandoned, neglected
or unwanted. The shelter cares for approximately
3500 animals each year and maintains an "OPEN
DOOR" policy, accepting all animals.
The
Animal Shelter also provides Animal Control services
and is responsible for impounding stray or lost
animals, cruelty investigations, rabies control,
dog license sales, lost pet reports, 24-hour emergency
services, enforcing local and state ordinances,
operation of the animal shelter, educational programs,
and administering the animal adoption program.

ADOPTIONS
- The goal of the Hollister Animal Shelter is
to find a loving home for every adoptable animal
in our care. Wonderful dogs, puppies, cats
and kittens are available for adoption daily.
Adoption fees include
the cost of the animals spay or neuter, vaccinations
if needed, a free health exam and a bag of pet
food.

PET
LOST & FOUND - The Animal Shelter
receives thousands of lost or abandoned animals
each year, and maintains a directory of lost and
found pets that is available to the public.
If
you lose a pet contact the Animal Shelter immediately,
and if you find a pet you must notify the Animal
Shelter by law, as pets are considered personal
property.

DOG
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS - Any
dog residing in the City limits of Hollister,
over the age of four months must have a City dog
license.
License
fees range in price to co-incide with the duration
of the rabies vaccination, and are as follows:
1
year altered dog $9,
two
year altered dog $13,
three
year altered dog $18,
one
year unaltered dog $18,
two
year unaltered dog $28,
three
year unaltered dog is $36.
To obtain a dog
license simply provide a valid rabies vaccination
certificate along with a check or money order
for the appropriate fees to the City of Hollister.

DOG LICENSE APPLICATION
ANIMAL
BITES / RABIES CONTROL- Bats, skunks,
raccoons and foxes are some of the many animals
who transmit rabies. San Benito County and
the City of Hollister both require current rabies
vaccinations on all dogs and cats.
If you are bitten
or scratched by any warm blooded animal including
your pet dog or cat you must contact the Animal
Shelter, Health Department or your physician immediately.

VOLUNTEER
PROGRAMS- Volunteers are always
needed to provide assistance in carrying out the
daily duties at the shelter such as walking dogs
or visiting with the cats and kittens.
If
you are interested in volunteering ask for the
volunteer coordinator at the Animal Shelter.
